draft again due on the 21st July for K.12,411 05-P.A.E.

we assume you will meet out of the above remittance.

Piece Goodς. The statement sent to you in February

with regard to plece goods referred to goods out of the of

bankrupt stock of 'r. Teidt's time.

The Bebit belance of $200 represents an advance

made to F. in July, but meanwhile F. has paid off this

advance so that his account is settled.

Hongkong Bunk. We are on very good terms to-day

with this Bank who have shown themselves most obliging.

note that you have agreed with your branch to 3 prolonga-

tions of the different drafts. In accordance with the

attitude of the Bank up to the present we shall certainly

have no difficulties in this respect. The question arises

however, how the Bank will regard the question of interest

having regard to the recent proclamation of the English

Government forbidding all trude with Germans after the

26th July. Shortly after this proclamation was publish-

ed the Bank tried to obtain payment from all the local

German firms of current drafts, but naturally no one agreed

to this. After the 26th, according to the proclamation

the Bank can no longer demand interest from German

firms on current drafts, but where it is a question of

requisitions one will probably measure with a different

scale. In any case different firms here have already

refused to pay interest on drafts against goods in respect

to which they do not know when they are likely to receive

them.

aturally, the Bank having regard to the large

business which is done in Shanghai hold a balance in their

favour against us; but in consequence of the proclamation after the 26th no manufacturer can make shipments from

Manchester to s German firm. What is not shipped up to

the 26th can no longer be exported unless a transfer of

the contracts made with R.B. and Company, to the name

Richter can be arranged. Having regard to the chop-ques-

tion
